What is Dysport?
Dysport® is an injectable that uses botulinum toxin type A to temporarily paralyze the muscles and prevent the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. Just one injection of Dysport® into each of the five points between and above a patient’s eyebrows will help block a signal from the nerve to the muscles, resulting in a reduction of muscle activity and temporarily preventing the muscles that form frown lines from contracting. You should not be treated with Dysport® any more frequently than every 90 days.
Where is Dysport Injected?
Although they are both botulinum toxin products, Dysport® differs from Botox because it has a thinner formula that spreads more easily in large treatment areas like the forehead. Dysport® is mainly used to treat severe frown lines (glabellar lines) between the brows and vertical forehead lines.
What to Expect

The total amount of time involved in a Dysport® treatment is just 10 to 20 minutes, and the most common side effects are headaches, throat irritation, pain or irritation at the injection site, upper respiratory tract infection, eyelid swelling or drooping, and nausea.
It is important to note that in some cases, Dysport® and all botulinum toxin products may affect areas of the body distant from the injection site and in rare cases can cause symptoms of a serious condition called botulism. These symptoms can occur hours, days, or weeks after treatment and can include swallowing and breathing problems, loss of strength or increased weakness, double vision, trouble talking, and hoarseness. You should call your doctor immediately upon experiencing any of these conditions.
Who is a Candidate?
Men and women between the ages of 18 and 65 who are in good overall health and who want to decrease the appearance of their moderate to severe frown lines are good candidates for Dysport®. Please let us know if you are on blood thinners or are currently pregnant or breastfeeding. We may recommend you wait to receive Dysport treatment.
