Residents in Arlington, Dallas Fort Worth, TX, and the surrounding areas can turn with confidence to board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Nakamura at Accent On You for expert microneedling treatments to help diminish the signs of aging, giving your skin a refreshed and revitalized appearance.
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is great for stimulating collagen growth through neocollagenesis, leading to the overall rejuvenation of your skin with results comparable to laser resurfacing. A recent study showed that microneedling your skin can give you as good or better results than laser resurfacing treatments. A series of four to six microneedling treatments spaced four to six weeks apart is recommended to achieve your optimal results. Given that your skin continues to age, it is important to continue to rejuvenate, which is where microneedling can make all the difference.
What are the Benefits of Microneedling?
As we age, we do not produce collagen as readily as we were able to in our youth, and no matter how much we do to slow down the aging process, we cannot stop it in its entirety. The aging that we experience in the form of fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, and tactile roughness can all be attributed to the natural breakdown of collagen production over time, in addition to a drastic decrease in cellular turnover. Microneedling is a facial treatment designed to stimulate your collagen production and to help address fine lines, enlarged pores, scars and the desire to smooth out your skin’s appearance. You will see results with one treatment, but the results will be even greater if you do a series of treatments. Most patients love their results so much that microneedling continues to be part of their facial maintenance, and they return every few months to be treated. The professionals at Accent On You provide effective microneedling treatments for patients who wish to improve the appearance of their skin without experiencing uncomfortable side effects.
What is the Microneedling Procedure?
Your microneedling procedure begins with cleaning and numbing the skin in the dermal area to be treated. A collagen-stimulating product, Vitamin C serum, or skin lightener may also used, which is then followed by the application of a small pen with 12 ultra-small needles that are deployed to create tiny wounds in your skin as the device glides along the surface of your skin penetrating the upper layers of your dermis to a depth of up to 2mm to create tiny wounds. Your body will naturally respond to this process by producing collagen and elastin fibers. As a result, your skin becomes fuller, thus reducing the appearance of scars, lines, and wrinkles. The speed and adjustability of these needles allow for more effective piercing and absorption, and Vitamin C serum or hyaluronic acid will be used following your procedure to hydrate, heal and protect your skin.
Recovery after Microneedling
Following your procedure, your skin will have a healthy glow, and it may exhibit some signs of redness for up to three days, although the application of recommended skin care products may help to accelerate your healing process. While you may experience some very minor discomfort in the initial few days following your microneedling treatment, this will decrease and go away quickly. As any initial redness diminishes, your results will become more visible and your skin will look smoother and more rejuvenated. For your daily skin regimen after the procedure, we will recommend that you use a soothing cleanser as well as a hydrating moisturizer containing hyaluronic acid.
